When I run the System Diagnostic in HUTIL, I consistently get an "LBA (some number) error is uncorrectable" error message during it's simple surface scan. If HUTIL is correct about all of those LBA error is uncorrectable messages, what does this mean?

until you smell something and shut it off, that's about it. He says he has been told (by Samsung) that more details will be coming today. When my Maxtor started getting those uncorrectable blocks, I started the zero fill (not from hutil but the equivalent program from Maxtor), thought it was taking too long (just like you Has anybody ever returned a drive showing a "Check M.C." error, and received a drive without that error in return?

You should download and burn the ultimate boot cd. I have a feeling that something is wrong with HUTILs compatibility with this HDD. I can't remember which one does which though. Yeah, I erased my F1 1TB in HUTIL - No change.

Are you using fairly new hardware (i.e., motherboard)? You can force the disk to replace the unreadable sector with a spare good sector, but only at the price of losing the 512 bytes of data forever.Disks with uncorrectable sectors http://www.sparepartswarehouse.....Parts.aspx Regards, Rick P. I did a quick search of the error provided and it was not enough information.

Would that make any difference? They all failed the M.C. The auctioner said it was tested and working perfectly and the shipping box appears undamaged. Here is a link to Samsung USA's faq on resolving 32GB prob.

There's nothing negative that a CHKDSK can do. Usually the ECC bytes can be used to correct the corrupted data. Each 512 bytes has additional bytes appended to it (usually 40 to 60) which are used internally by the disk firmware for error checking/detection and correction. The other files were mainly temporary files or windows files that were backed up on the CD so i assume they weren't a problem.

What i want to know is can the hard drive failing cause any damage to other hardware in my computer?
